There are few things sweeter to my ears than the clean, snappy fingerpicking of Piedmont legend, Etta Baker. Etta had a simple approach yet coaxed so much beautiful music out of an acoustic guitar. She’s the inspiration for my quest to learn as much Piedmont blues as possible and she’s the inspiration for this course.

In this course, we’ll take a look at a song of mine called Bar Tab Blues.  This tune, a 12-bar blues in A, is chock full of alternating bass, bright melody lines, and cool chord moves.  The arrangement for Baker Blues is designed to be progressively challenging.

Beginners:  The first 12 bars will be perfect for the beginner looking to ease into fingerpicking.

Intermediate:  The second 12 bars is solidly intermediate-level playing.  You’ll fill out the picking and turn up the intensity just a bit.

The bridge and final 2 choruses of Baker Blues will keep the intermediate player progressing with a few chord twists that move the song along and a quick lick or two thrown in for good measure.

I hope you’ll join me as we pay homage to Etta Baker with Baker Blues.
